IDC Q2 2020 Global Server Market Report: Revenue Growth, Vendor Rankings, and Regional Performance
The IDC Q2 2020 report shows a 19.8% year‑over‑year increase in global server vendor revenue to $24 billion, an 18.4% rise in shipments to nearly 3.2 million units, detailed vendor market‑share rankings, and strong regional growth especially in APAC.
IDC report shows that in the second quarter of 2020 the global server market vendor revenue grew 19.8% year‑over‑year to $24 billion, and shipments increased 18.4% to nearly 3.2 million units.

Regarding server categories, bulk‑shipment servers revenue increased 22.1% to $18.7 billion, mid‑range servers revenue fell 0.4% to $3.3 billion, and high‑end systems grew 44.1% to $1.9 billion.
IDC Infrastructure Platforms and Technologies senior analyst Paul Maguranis said: “Enterprise server demand remained strong in Q2 2020, especially in APAC, which grew 31% year‑over‑year.”
Global server market vendor rankings for Q2 2020: HPE/Xinhua 3 held 14.9% market share, Dell 13.9%, Inspur/Inspur Commercial Machines 10.5% with a 77% YoY growth, and Lenovo and IBM each around 6%.
ODM Direct manufacturers accounted for 28.8% of total server revenue ($6.9 billion), up 63.4% YoY, and represented 34.4% of the quarter’s shipments.
Regionally, APAC performed best with a 31% increase; China led with 39.8% growth, followed by Japan at 24.9%, while other regions (excluding APAC, Japan, China) grew 13.4%. The United States grew 25%, Canada declined 11.2%, Latin America rose 15.6%, and EMEA fell 5.8%.
In Q2 2020, x86 server revenue grew 17.4% to $21.6 billion, whereas non‑x86 server revenue surged 47.4% to about $2.4 billion.
