Youzan Big Data Technology Salon – Cost Governance, Apache Iceberg, Flink, and Data‑Driven Growth
At Youzan’s Big Data Technology Salon, over 100 attendees heard leaders from Youzan, NetEase Yishu, and Didi discuss cost governance, Apache Iceberg data lakes, large‑scale Flink real‑time computing, and data‑driven growth strategies, highlighting practical implementations, savings of millions and tools for merchant empowerment.
On December 19, Youzan's Data Platform team co‑hosted a "Youzan Big Data Technology Salon" together with NetEase Yishu and Didi Chuxing at Youzan's new office. The event gathered more than 100 attendees from various locations to discuss cutting‑edge data technologies.
The opening remarks were delivered by Jiang Bo, head of Youzan's Data Platform, who emphasized data as a core competitive advantage for SaaS companies and the importance of continuous data‑technology iteration.
Four speakers presented:
Wang Yongning (Youzan Cost Governance Lead) shared the journey of building a cost‑governance system for data, covering cost quantification, billing, and energy‑saving measures that saved millions of yuan, and described the maturity path from cost awareness to value measurement.
Fan Xinxin (NetEase Yishu Big Data Development Expert) delivered a talk titled "Building an Efficient Data Lake with Apache Iceberg," explaining the limitations of traditional Lambda architecture, the benefits of incremental computation, Iceberg's core principles, and practical challenges encountered at NetEase.
Liu Yufei (Didi Senior Development Engineer) presented "Flink in Didi's Real‑Time Computing Practice," outlining Didi's evolution from ad‑hoc clusters to a unified Flink platform, the role of meta‑construction, custom schedulers, and the scale of the real‑time cluster (over 1,300 machines running more than 12,000 jobs).
Zeng Bin (Youzan Data Growth Technology Lead) discussed data‑driven growth, stressing that growth is achieved through capability improvement and cognitive upgrades, and how Youzan empowers merchants with data‑based growth tools.
Between the sessions, a tea‑break allowed participants to network and exchange ideas. The salon concluded with thanks to the speakers and attendees, and a reminder that replying "Big Data Salon" to the public account can obtain the presentation slides.
