XQUIC: High-Performance Open-Source QUIC Transport Library and Summer Open Source Project
The XQUIC project, Alibaba’s high‑performance open‑source QUIC transport library that powers mobile Taobao and large‑scale gateway services with up to 20 % latency reduction, offers a standards‑compliant stack (QUIC‑Transport, QUIC‑TLS, HTTP/3, qlog) and multi‑path XLINK, and invites students in the Open Source Summer program to extend the code, improve diagnostics, and earn mentorship and rewards.
Open Source Summer is a summer activity under the Open Source Software Supply Chain Lighting Plan, co‑hosted by the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the openEuler community, encouraging students to contribute to open‑source projects.
The XQUIC project, an Alibaba open‑source lightweight, high‑performance, standards‑compliant cross‑platform implementation of the IETF QUIC transport protocol, is the only domestic open‑source QUIC implementation. It powers mobile Taobao on Android/iOS and large‑scale gateway services, handling billions of requests daily and achieving up to 20% latency reduction in core shopping scenarios.
XQUIC’s architecture includes QUIC‑Transport, QUIC‑TLS (TLS 1.3 integration) and HTTP/3, with support for qlog logging. The multi‑path QUIC technology XLINK, developed jointly with Alibaba Cloud AIS, enables simultaneous use of 5G/4G and Wi‑Fi, and its paper was accepted at SIGCOMM 2021.
The community project invites students to extend the protocol stack, improve network diagnostics, and enrich documentation. Participants receive mentorship, code‑run‑anywhere experience, and monetary rewards.
Application period: April 21 – May 10 for project browsing, official proposals open May 21. Students can register via the official website and join the DingTalk group 41225500 for communication.
