Why Baidu’s Wenxin Model Dominates IDC’s 2025 Large Model Evaluation

Recently, the international market research and consulting firm IDC released the “China Foundational Large Model Product Comprehensive Evaluation Report, 2025”. The Baidu Wenxin model achieved the highest scores in seven of eight core evaluation dimensions, becoming the only model to receive seven perfect scores.

Based on a model matrix, the functions provided by large‑model software, product usability, hardware‑software compatibility, product call volume, community and ecosystem, breadth of scenario coverage, and NPS user recommendation, IDC conducted an in‑depth assessment of twelve mainstream foundational large models, including Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, Baidu Wenxin, Alibaba Tongyi, ByteDance Doubao, DeepSeek, Zhipu GLM, and others. Wenxin emerged as the strongest overall, with the most complete product.

IDC highlighted that Baidu has consistently invested in foundational large‑model research, being the earliest domestic company to do so. Wenxin excels in multi‑turn dialogue memory, understanding, and instruction‑following capabilities, delivering continuous, complete, and accurate outputs across multiple rounds. Its image understanding, table generation, and translation—especially in technical fields—are also superior, and its multimodal features are well‑developed. In late April, Baidu launched the multimodal Wenxin 4.5 Turbo and the deep‑thinking Wenxin X1 Turbo models.

As the earliest domestic large‑model pioneer, Baidu has built a comprehensive four‑layer technology stack covering chips, frameworks, models, and applications, giving it a clear innovation advantage. The expansion and efficiency gains of Wenxin are driven by the joint optimization of PaddlePaddle and Wenxin. To date, over 21.85 million developers use the platform, serving more than 670 thousand enterprises and creating 1.1 million models. IDC concluded that “Baidu’s early focus, solid technology, and forward‑looking products make Wenxin the strongest overall and the most advanced product.”

In 2025, large models enter a new high‑speed development stage, with rapid releases shifting competition from “parameter‑pushing” to “ability, ecosystem, and scenario implementation”. Future manufacturers will further explore multimodal evolution, tool‑ecosystem construction, and agent collaboration, driving generative AI toward large‑scale deployment.

The report notes that Baidu’s Wenxin has formed a complete product matrix and open‑platform system, integrating enterprise‑grade tools and ecosystem networks to enable developers and industry customers to quickly access and customize solutions, positioning it as one of the most platform‑capable large models today and supporting intelligent transformation across countless industries.
