What Interns Learned at Alibaba’s Front‑End Interactive Team: From Eva.js to WebGL
Seven university interns spent a summer at Alibaba's Taobao Front‑End Interactive team, gaining hands‑on experience with Eva.js, WebGL, React, engineering processes, and team collaboration while reflecting on personal growth, technical challenges, and the supportive workplace culture.
This summer, the Taobao Front‑End Interactive team welcomed seven enthusiastic university interns, injecting fresh energy into the group.

The weather in Hangzhou was relentless, but after a month on the team, I felt happy and fulfilled.
Through daily learning, I adapted to the work environment and improved my engineering abilities and technical level in projects.
Guided by senior mentors, I quickly solved problems, mastered Git branching, and became familiar with front‑end module standards and release processes. I gained a solid understanding of WebGL rendering and the ECS pattern of game engines, contributing to the team as an Eva.js developer.
The company cafeteria offers reasonable prices and quality food, and ping‑pong breaks provide relaxation and social connections.
The internship felt like a warm, harmonious team, similar to campus life, helping me envision post‑graduation plans.
车铭
1. Front‑end technology at the team The team’s infrastructure is highly mature, emphasizing engineering, modular development, and self‑developed technologies such as Eva.js, which powers many interactive services and maintains an active community.
2. Team atmosphere Colleagues often create plugins or “wheel‑building” solutions to boost efficiency, sharing progress in regular meetings and fostering a strong technical culture.
3. Newcomer cultivation Interns are treated as full‑time employees, given challenging projects, and paired with mentors who guide them through product, operations, design, and backend collaborations, enhancing problem‑solving skills.
In short, I highly recommend this team to future interns.
之瑛
1. Technical gains I applied classroom theory to practice, building a React development environment with Webpack and creating a conic‑gradient effect using box‑shadow hacks.
I followed a systematic problem‑solving framework: research, design, mentor review, implementation, validation, and documentation, which strengthened my confidence in tackling unknown issues.
I also deepened my understanding of software engineering through a real‑world “Dou Dizhu” project, planning to revisit these concepts in my thesis.
2. New perspective on teams My experience as a university athletics captain taught me the importance of caring for teammates and maintaining a positive team atmosphere.
Special thanks to mentors 齐纪 and 明非.

The internship enhanced practical skills beyond academic learning, especially in computer graphics, game engine fundamentals, and skeletal animation, steering my future focus toward engine development.
Supportive mentors helped me identify gaps in my project development abilities and improve productivity.
Life on campus was comfortable with convenient facilities, a gym, and multiple cafeterias.
Overall, the experience was enriching and valuable.
