What Do the Latest DevOps Maturity Model Results Reveal About Enterprise Adoption?

Domestic and international large‑scale enterprises have confirmed that standardization and tool empowerment are critical for success; DevOps standards and pipeline platforms significantly improve quality, efficiency, safety, and agility, thereby boosting market competitiveness.

The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) has issued a series of "Research‑Operation Integration (DevOps) Capability Maturity Model" standards that provide essential guidance for enterprise DevOps implementation. Companies from banking, securities, telecommunications and internet sectors have actively participated in CAICT assessments, resulting in notable capability improvements.

On June 29, 2023, CAICT announced the latest assessment results for the DevOps Capability Maturity Model series.

Evaluating body: China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

Award presented by: Yang Lingling, Director of the Audit and Governance Department, Cloud Computing and Big Data Research Institute, CAICT.

As of the announcement, 78 prominent enterprises have participated in the DevOps Capability Maturity Model assessment, covering 224 projects across six state‑owned banks, joint‑stock banks, city commercial banks, internet, securities, insurance and telecommunications sectors.

* Statistics are current as of June 29, 2023. Data are sourced from the official DevOps assessment website and are ordered by total assessments, with ties broken by assessment batch sequence.

* Numbers represent the count of projects/modules that achieved Level 3 Continuous Delivery, Level 2/2+ Technical Operations, Level 2 Security & Risk Management, and System & Tool evaluations, including subsidiaries.

Overview of the Research‑Operation Integration (DevOps) Capability Maturity Model:

The model series, led by CAICT and co‑created with the Cloud Computing Open Source Industry Alliance, Efficient Operations Community, BATJ and major financial, telecom and internet enterprises, is the first domestic and international DevOps standard series, offering the most complete and authoritative guidance for DevOps integration. The standards have been issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and adopted by numerous leading firms.

In July 2020, the DevOps standard was formally concluded by the United Nations‑affiliated standardization body ITU‑T, becoming the world’s first international DevOps standard.

The overall DevOps architecture covers process (agile development management, continuous delivery, technical operations), application design, security & risk management, system & tools, business value management, collaborative development & operations, continuous testing, performance measurement, platform engineering, and reliability & continuity engineering.
