Unity3D is a cross‑platform browser and mobile game development framework that competes directly with Flash and now runs on iPhone.

The Unity engine adopts the same architecture and development approach as large‑scale professional game engines to deliver Web3D capabilities, marking a major leap for the Web3D industry.

One week ago Unity announced the first public beta of Unity 2020.2, highlighting major performance improvements, new programming and tool features, enhanced artistic and asset creation experiences, updates to VFX Graph, a Universal Render Pipeline approaching parity with the built‑in pipeline, native Apple Arm support, and broader media and entertainment use cases.

The release notes state that the new version continues to focus on performance, stability, and workflow enhancements. Key new features and improvements include:

Programming tools and performance enhancements

C# 8 support

Improved Time.delta stability

Support for Unity Safe Mode

Numerous visual improvements

Editor workflow optimizations

Job queue optimizations

Nested prefab optimizations

Camera optimizations

2D texture loading optimizations

Profile Analyzer reaching version 1.0

Approximately 2× faster large‑scale parallel job scheduling

Unity also revealed that further optimizations are planned for Unity 2021, and that Unity 2020 LTS is scheduled for release in March 2021, bundling all features from 2020.1 and 2020.2 along with future fixes, providing maximum stability for projects slated for near‑term release.
