The SpringOne conference announced that Spring Framework 6 and Spring Boot 3 will reach production‑ready GA status in Q4 2022, outlined their milestone and release‑candidate schedule, required JDK 17 and Jakarta EE 9 compatibility, detailed Spring Native's native‑image support, and previewed upcoming Spring Boot 2.6 and 2.7 releases.
At the SpringOne conference the Spring team announced that Spring Framework 6 and Spring Boot 3 are slated to reach production‑ready GA status in Q4 2022.
The roadmap shows milestones (M1‑M4), release candidates (RC1‑RC3) and final GA releases, with the new versions requiring at least JDK 17 and Tomcat 10/Jetty 11 to align with Jakarta EE 9.
Jakarta EE, formerly Java EE, is now the baseline for the platform, and JDK 17 is positioned as the long‑term support release, superseding JDK 11.
Spring Boot 2.6 is expected in November 2022 and Spring Boot 2.7 in May 2023, both still based on Spring Framework 5.3.x.
Spring Native provides beta support for compiling Spring Boot applications to native executables with GraalVM, offering smaller container images, lower memory usage and faster startup.
The Spring team emphasized their commitment to a strong Java cloud‑native ecosystem.
