DB-Engines released its May 2023 database popularity ranking, showing modest overall score fluctuations. Oracle recorded the largest monthly gain (+8 points) but fell 7.12 points compared to the same month last year, while MySQL and SQL Server dropped sharply (‑34.28 and ‑51.46 points).

PostgreSQL and Redis surged (+56.04 and +16.85 points), with Redis climbing from 7th to 6th place. Microsoft Access, MariaDB and Snowflake also posted significant year‑over‑year increases; Snowflake was the 2021 “Database of the Year”.
