On July 16, the 11th "Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award" ceremony, regarded as China’s highest AI honor, was held in Beijing, where JD.com’s joint project with Tianjin University titled "Key Technologies for Intelligent Product Matching and Their Application in Marketing" won the second‑place Science and Technology Progress Award.

According to JD Group Vice President Bao Yongjun, digital intelligence is a critical competitive edge for modern enterprises, and JD has been dedicated to researching core digital‑intelligence technologies. The company tackled the industry‑wide challenge of "matching users with products" in e‑commerce, developing key technologies for intelligent product matching that enable deep user insight, robust product understanding, and accurate user‑product matching, thereby meeting personalized, differentiated, and high‑quality consumer demands and delivering notable economic and social benefits.

The project focuses on three dimensions—user attributes, product attributes, and recommendation matching—introducing innovative multi‑level user profiling, cross‑modal product modeling, and precise matching techniques. During the research phase, the team published 42 high‑impact papers, secured 25 national invention patents, garnered over 4,000 Google Scholar citations, and earned more than 40 awards, including the ADMEN International Gold Award.

These technologies have been extensively applied in JD’s complex retail scenarios, driving a more than 200% increase in transaction volume for the JD Intelligent Marketing Platform from 2018 to 2020. Built on these results, tools such as "Jingzhun Tong," "JD Digital Workshop," and "JD Business Intelligence" have served over 100,000 domestic and international merchants, including many Fortune 500 companies, helping them reduce costs and enhance user experience through refined, efficient smart marketing.

JD Group Vice President Yan Weipeng noted that receiving the Wu Wenjun AI award reflects JD’s sustained R&D investment and breakthrough innovations. As a new‑type实体企业, JD will continue to explore valuable technologies across broader fields, supporting enterprises in digital‑intelligence transformation and delivering exceptional consumer experiences.

Since its full‑scale technology transformation in 2017, JD has invested nearly 80 billion CNY in basic science and technology R&D. Its achievements now span intelligent retail, supply chain, logistics, smart cities, as well as frontier areas such as trustworthy AI, super deep learning, and quantum machine learning, strengthening its own development while expanding digital transformation opportunities for partners across industries.
