iQiyi's ZoomAI Wins 2021 CCF Science and Technology Award for Video Restoration and Enhancement

On October 14, the results of the 2021 "CCF Science and Technology Award" were officially announced, with iQiyi's "ZoomAI - AI-based Video Restoration and Enhancement System" winning the Outstanding Science and Technology Progress Award. This marks the fifth consecutive year that iQiyi's technological innovation products have received CCF awards. Other award recipients this year include Tsinghua University, the Institute of Software at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Renmin University of China, and Lenovo Research Institute.

The China Computer Federation (CCF) is the authoritative institution in China's computer and related fields. To promote innovation and progress in computer science and technology, CCF established the China Computer Federation Award (CCF Award) to encourage outstanding achievements with significant discoveries, inventions, or original innovations in computer science, technology, or engineering that have a certain international impact.

According to official CCF information, a total of 52 projects were recommended/declared this year. After evaluation, the CCF Award Committee decided to award 27 projects, including "ZoomAI - AI-based Video Restoration and Enhancement System," the 2021 "CCF Science and Technology Award."

In the award announcement, CCF stated that iQiyi's "ZoomAI - AI-based Video Restoration and Enhancement System" project proposed and implemented an AI-based video restoration and enhancement system with significant technological breakthroughs, good application performance, and substantial economic and social benefits.

With the advancement of internet technology, the video industry has entered the "ultra-high-definition era." However, many classic film and television works have lower image quality due to early shooting times, limited technical levels, and improper film preservation. To promote classics and provide users with a clearer and smoother viewing experience, iQiyi developed the ZoomAI video restoration and enhancement system to perform multi-dimensional restoration and enhancement of these film and television works.

ZoomAI is iQiyi's AI-based video restoration and enhancement system, including self-developed algorithms for super-resolution, intelligent frame interpolation, scratch repair, color enhancement, face reconstruction, black-and-white coloring, and other dimensions. These algorithm modules are decoupled from each other and can be freely combined to provide comprehensive image/video restoration and enhancement.

The algorithms related to the ZoomAI video restoration and enhancement system are trained based on iQiyi's massive video data, achieving industry-leading results. During the algorithm development process, a total of 32 domestic invention patents were applied for (4 authorized), and 2 top international conference papers were published. The ZoomAI video restoration and enhancement system has won first place in the "Video Restoration" category at the MediaAIAC competition, the Innovation Achievement Award at the World Computer Congress, honorary recognition for old film restoration at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, and the Bronze Award for Best Innovative Digital Media Technology.

Using technological innovation to help classic films renew and endure, awakening users' film and television sentiments and emotional resonance. Currently, the ZoomAI video restoration and enhancement system has been implemented on iQiyi, providing users with a better viewing experience and contributing an important part to the inheritance and dissemination of classic film and television works and excellent culture.
