Internet Engineer Hourly Wage Rankings by Seniority Level
This article presents a data‑driven ranking of Chinese internet companies' engineer hourly wages across junior to expert levels, explaining the calculation method, data sources, and highlighting which firms offer the highest pay per hour.
We present a reference for evaluating companies based on engineer hourly wages, calculated from median salaries across seniority levels and typical weekly work hours, with data sourced from the “职级对标” website.
Methodology: For junior, intermediate, senior, senior+, and expert levels, we compute the median compensation over the past year, multiply weekly work hours (49 weeks per year) to derive annual work hours, then divide total compensation by hours to obtain hourly rates. Companies with insufficient data are excluded.
We consider total compensation ( package )—including base salary, bonuses, stock or equity dividends, and other income—when calculating the hourly wage.
The rankings, updated weekly, show that Microsoft and Pinduoduo lead in hourly wages for junior, intermediate, and senior engineers, while Meituan, Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance, and Baidu excel for senior, senior+, and expert levels.
Note: Lunch break of two hours is excluded from work time.
Conclusion: The data highlights which internet companies offer the highest hourly compensation across engineering seniority.
