Over the past 20 years, the explosion of internet data—estimated at 47 ZB globally in 2020—has driven rapid growth of data intelligence, which continues to expand with 5G, the metaverse, and IoT.
In e‑commerce, data intelligence is widely used for recommendation, smart customer service, advertising, and logistics. Front‑end developers now need to handle data tracking, A/B testing, and metric observation, and they must participate more in early requirement decisions and post‑launch effect tracking.
Three integration modes are described: (1) Front‑end serves data intelligence, e.g., high‑performance data visualisation with AntV; (2) Data intelligence serves front‑end, e.g., design‑to‑code generation via the imgcook platform; (3) Front‑end and data intelligence combine to optimise consumer experience by using data‑driven insights to guide UI improvements.
Experience‑optimization scenarios include churn prediction, interaction‑preference analysis, and intelligent UI that dynamically adapts content layout based on user preferences.
Key technologies introduced are WhaleM (intelligent UI platform), DataCook (a JS‑based data‑science and ML toolkit for the front end), and PipCook (a visual data‑analysis and ML workflow solution). The overall architecture consists of a capability base (log collection, model services, MaxCompute), business models (e.g., churn prediction), and front‑end‑side strategies that act on model outputs.
The data‑intelligence practice workflow follows four stages: problem definition, data collection (metadata, behavioural data, key results), data analysis (statistics, visualisation, modelling such as clustering, classification, regression), and data application with A/B testing to validate and iterate on strategies.
A concrete case study on interaction‑preference analysis uses a k‑means clustering model from DataCook. After three days of data collection, features are normalised, the optimal number of clusters is chosen via an elbow plot, and the model is validated over 30 days before being deployed to personalise UI and guide user actions.
Future outlook highlights emerging standards and technologies: WebNN for browser‑based neural‑network APIs with hardware acceleration, WebGPU as the next‑generation graphics API for high‑performance web rendering, and WebAssembly (WASM) for performance, encryption, and cross‑language compatibility.
