How 5 Leading Chinese Insurers Passed DevOps Maturity Assessments (8 Projects)

In the context of digital transformation, enterprises adopt DevOps to improve IT efficiency. The "R&D Operations Integration (DevOps) Capability Maturity Model" series standards led by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) provide guidance, and leading insurers have used the model to assess and enhance their IT capabilities.

Insurance Companies and Projects Assessed

Five insurance companies—Pacific Insurance, PICC, China Life Property, Taikang Insurance, and China Life (Overseas)—participated in a total of eight DevOps capability maturity assessment projects.

Case Studies

Pacific Insurance (China Pacific)

Four projects—an e‑commerce platform, a unified life‑insurance underwriting platform, a health‑insurance online underwriting system, and a pension‑fund document‑sorting project—successfully passed the CAICT DevOps Continuous Delivery Level‑3 assessment, demonstrating breakthroughs in process organization, team collaboration, tool integration, development metrics, and demand delivery.

China Life (Overseas) – OnePartner Project

The OnePartner platform integrates open‑source technologies to provide a multi‑channel insurance marketing service. After applying DevOps standards, the project achieved significant efficiency gains, as shown in the figures below.

People's Insurance Company of China – Distributed Core System

The project adopts a three‑tier architecture, micro‑services, and container‑based private cloud, enabling rapid scaling, high concurrency, and multi‑active data centers, supporting 2000 km of remote traffic diversion.

Taikang Insurance – Taikang Pension Internet Business Platform

The legacy system was gradually refactored and replaced using a step‑by‑step stripping strategy, addressing scalability, maintainability, and stability challenges while meeting fast‑changing business demands.

China Life Property Insurance – Agricultural Insurance Claims System

The new system supports the full claims lifecycle for four agricultural insurance types, achieving 100 % unit‑test pass rate, 100 % automated interface test coverage, an average delivery cycle of about five days, and build times under 15 minutes.

About the DevOps Capability Maturity Model

The model, jointly developed by CAICT, cloud‑computing alliances, major internet companies, and financial and telecom enterprises, is the first comprehensive DevOps standard in China and has been recognized internationally, including by the ITU‑T.
