Git for Windows 2.39.0‑rc2 Released: New Features and Bug Fixes
Git for Windows 2.39.0‑rc2 introduces updated components, new SSH key generation support, simplified color settings, and fixes version‑info and container‑compatibility bugs, providing a more secure and functional Git experience on Windows platforms.
Git for Windows 2.39.0‑rc2 has been released, bringing updated components such as Git v2.39.0, OpenSSL 1.1.1s, cURL 7.86.0, OpenSSH 9.1p1, GNU TLS 3.7.8, Git Credential Manager Core 2.0.877, MinTTY 3.6.2, Bash 5.2‑p12, and Git LFS 3.3.0.
New features include support for generating FIDO‑protected SSH keys via ssh-keygen.exe -t ecdsa-sk , a simplified color configuration using color.ui instead of separate color.diff , color.status , and color.branch , and the portable Git archive now uses the latest 7‑Zip self‑extractor.
Bug fixes address incomplete version information embedded in git.exe and a regression introduced in v2.38.0 that prevented git.exe from running inside Windows Nano Server containers.
