The FFmpeg (Fast Forward MPEG) decision committee recently announced its expansion from 22 to 33 members. Liu Qi, CTO of OnVideo and Tencent Cloud TVP (Tencent Cloud Valuable Professional), was elected with unanimous approval to the decision committee, gaining the ability to participate in voting and shaping FFmpeg's feature development direction.

FFmpeg, established in 2000, is the world's leading open-source multimedia framework and the most widely used audio/video codec suite. Over 90% of global audio/video software relies on FFmpeg as its foundational library. The framework provides comprehensive support for container formats, codec formats, network protocols, and filter modules, with excellent portability.

As one of the early engineers, Liu Qi has made significant contributions to FFmpeg development and maintenance, including submitting DASH support code to FFmpeg, introducing China's national standard AVS2 Codec into FFmpeg, and maintaining the HLS, DASH, and FLV modules. He also reviews patches submitted by other developers and mentors newcomers to the FFmpeg community. Currently, FFmpeg has over 20,000 contributors worldwide, with approximately 160 maintainers having code submission permissions.

This appointment recognizes Liu Qi's years of dedicated support, participation, and maintenance of FFmpeg. He expressed gratitude for FFmpeg's trust and stated his commitment to continuing updates and maintenance of FFmpeg, strengthening interactions between the Chinese open-source community and the FFmpeg platform, and continuously promoting the development and advancement of video technology.
