Enabling Microsoft Edge Uninstall on Windows 11 via System Policy

Microsoft Edge is pre‑installed on Windows and traditionally cannot be removed, which many users find frustrating. Under the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), Microsoft must allow users in the European Economic Area to uninstall built‑in software such as Edge, Bing, Camera, and Photos, with the feature expected to be fully available by June 2024.

In Windows 11 build 22631.2728 (and later), traces of the uninstall functionality appear, but the option is still hidden. The relevant setting resides in the file C:\Windows\System32\IntegratedServicesRegionPolicySet.json . Opening this file with a text editor reveals an entry for Edge where the property disabled is set to true , meaning the uninstall feature is turned off.

To attempt enabling it, the file permissions must first be changed to allow the current user to edit it. After changing the value from disabled to enabled , the Edge uninstall button in Settings remains grey, indicating the change alone is insufficient. Users have also tried using the ViveTool utility (IDs 44353396, 43699941) to expose hidden features, but success is still pending pending future Windows updates.

In the meantime, the article recommends a third‑party Windows 11 tweaking tool that can disable Microsoft Defender, uninstall built‑in apps, adjust taskbar and resource settings, and includes an Edge removal function. The tool is shared by user @colcool2013 on the Yuanjing forum, with a download link (https://wwi.lanzoup.com/b00rw5xsb, password: 4qsw) and screenshots illustrating its capabilities.
