Ctrip Cloud Walk 2016 Technical Conference Highlights: Cloud Computing, Container Orchestration, and Blockchain
The 2016 Ctrip Cloud Walk conference showcased a series of technical talks on cloud computing, container technologies, Kubernetes, Mesos, Docker, and blockchain, sharing real‑world implementations and challenges from industry leaders such as Qiniu, Ele.me, BiliBili, Dianrong, Alibaba Cloud, and Ctrip Cloud.
On December 17, Ctrip's Technology Assurance Center held the annual Cloud Walk technical conference in Lingkong SOHO, drawing enthusiastic participants despite the cold 4°C weather and attracting over 180 online viewers via live streaming.
The event focused on cloud computing, container technologies, continuous delivery, scheduling, and operations, featuring experts, community developers, and production practitioners who discussed challenges in building large‑scale cloud platforms and shared container‑as‑a‑service (CaaS) case studies.
Qiniu's Xiao Qin opened with "Container Cloud and Highly Available Scalable Architecture," covering traditional high‑availability methods, comparing service discovery and load‑balancing support in Kubernetes 1.0, Kubernetes 1.2, and Swarm, and describing Qiniu's Golang‑based distributed network Blizzard, containerized MySQL clusters, and Spark on object‑storage networks.
Ele.me's Feng Qi presented "Ele.me Mesos Framework," detailing the AppOS container scheduling system built on Mesos, covering framework authentication, offer matching, pod scheduling, resource isolation, service discovery, and cluster maintenance.
BiliBili's Liang Xiaocong shared "Docker in Bilibili: Practical Application," explaining how the platform handles sudden traffic spikes by leveraging container technology for network, service discovery, log collection, monitoring, elasticity, and exploring hybrid‑cloud strategies.
Dianrong's Cheng Silui discussed "Blockchain Technology in Dianrong," using a "Peach Blossom Island" analogy to explain blockchain principles, decentralized network design, current challenges, and applications in anti‑counterfeiting, identity verification, and smart contracts.
Alibaba Cloud's Jiang Jizhong delivered "Automated Operations Based on Alibaba Cloud Container Service," outlining Docker’s rise, the shift from PaaS to CaaS, and practical issues such as service discovery, container networking, multi‑cloud deployment, and log management.
Finally, Ctrip Cloud’s Ji Zhilong presented "Building Ctrip's Container Deployment Platform on Mesos," describing the team’s OpenStack background, custom dwait & dresponse mechanisms for Docker pre‑start hooks, integration with Neutron, experiments with NovaDocker and Chronos, and the home‑grown Mesos framework‑pychronos and Docker‑make image‑building tool.
The conference concluded with lively Q&A sessions both on‑site and online, reflecting strong interest in technical details and concepts, and marked the successful completion of Ctrip's 2016 Cloud Walk conference.
