Chrome Remains the Dominant Desktop Browser with Over 70% Market Share
According to StatCounter data, Chrome continues to dominate the global desktop browser market with a share approaching 70%, while Edge holds second place and other browsers like Safari, Firefox, and niche options occupy smaller portions of the market.
Obviously, the global desktop browser king remains Chrome, with a share approaching 70%.
StatCounter's data for March 2022 shows Chrome continues to be the leading desktop browser, with a share of at least 67.29%.
In other words, nearly 7 out of every 10 computers run Chrome, which is impressive, especially since most of these computers run Windows.
Windows' default browsers are Internet Explorer (older versions) or Microsoft Edge (newer versions), so about 7 out of 10 users have abandoned Microsoft's browsers in favor of Google's Chrome.
On the other hand, the modern Microsoft Edge is gaining traction; it is now the second most used desktop browser with a 9.65% share. Clearly, it is far from challenging Google's dominance, but it has surpassed competitors Firefox and Safari.
It is worth noting that Safari is only available on macOS, as it no longer offers a Windows version. Its market share indicates that most Apple users stick with the default browser and do not install third‑party alternatives like Chrome or Edge.
Moreover, for many outside the tech community, Chrome is not as familiar; they commonly use browsers such as 360, UC, QQ Browser, etc. Some niche browsers, though less used, have good reputations, like Opera and Quark Browser.
In summary, browser market competition remains fierce because browsers are the gateway to traffic; the more users a browser has, the greater its share of traffic distribution.
However, for most people, convenience, simplicity, and speed are the primary needs—what do you think?
