Bilibili has finished beta development of its HarmonyOS native video app—the first bullet‑comment‑enabled video client on the platform—offering medium‑long video playback, personalized recommendations, search, hot lists and interactive features, while cutting build times from over twenty to under five minutes and targeting a full commercial launch with expanded services across smartphones, tablets, displays and vehicles in Q4 2024.

Bilibili Completes Beta Development of HarmonyOS Native Video Application

As a video community highly populated with young users, Bilibili has announced the completion of the Beta version of its HarmonyOS native application.

The Beta version already provides complete medium‑long video consumption functions, allowing users to discover and enjoy their favorite videos through homepage recommendations, search, hot lists, follow lists, and to engage in community interactions such as one‑click three‑like and bullet‑comment posting.

In future versions, Bilibili will continue to optimize video consumption and community interaction features, fully leveraging HarmonyOS native intelligence, security, and interconnectivity to deliver intelligent content flow and intelligent page layout, while enriching its product line to meet diverse user needs.

Notably, this application is the first bullet‑comment‑supporting video app to reach Beta stage on the HarmonyOS native platform.

Since late November last year, Bilibili and Huawei have been developing the HarmonyOS native app in close cooperation, tackling multi‑module management, compilation pipelines, ArkUI native development, and cross‑platform challenges, solving hundreds of technical issues and establishing an architecture suited for complex business and multi‑team collaboration.

In particular, the teams jointly performed performance tuning to address the long compilation time of dynamic modules, reducing the original build time of over twenty minutes to under five minutes, greatly improving development efficiency.

The successful launch of the Beta version provides a valuable reference for other partners.

The commercial release of the Bilibili HarmonyOS native app is scheduled for Q4 2024 alongside HarmonyOS NEXT, offering full OGV services, membership services, charging services, classroom services, and live services to deliver rich video content and derivative services.

Going forward, the two sides will continue to collaborate, taking advantage of HarmonyOS’s develop‑once‑deploy‑multi‑end characteristic to expand Bilibili’s presence across smartphones, tablets, smart displays, and in‑vehicle systems, exploring new opportunities in the full‑scenario era.

Follow‑up updates on Bilibili’s Kotlin Multiplatform experience on HarmonyOS will be shared via the technical public account.
