Ant Group Showcases AI‑Driven Risk Control and Leads ITU‑SG17 Security Standard Development at Geneva Meeting
Ant Group’s Alipay presented its AI‑driven risk control capabilities and led the development of an ITU‑SG17 international security standard for enhanced identity authentication, highlighting its low loss rate and reinforcing its global fintech reputation.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU‑T) Study Group 17 (SG17) held a plenary meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, where dozens of ICT companies and nearly one hundred experts—including IBM, SK Telecom, Vodafone, and Symantec—discussed security capability building. Ant Group, the only fintech company invited, delivered a keynote on Alipay’s practices and latest achievements in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and risk control.
In September 2018, Alipay successfully initiated the drafting of the international standard “Risk Identification Technology Framework for Enhanced Identity Authentication” within SG17, marking ITU’s first security‑related standard in the risk‑control domain. The proposal received unanimous support from global experts, with detailed technical input from Korean research institutes and the U.S. company Symantec, moving the standard toward concrete implementation.
After more than a decade of research, Alipay has built an autonomous risk‑control capability that combines risk perception, risk identification, intelligent evolution, and auto‑driving technologies. It scans every transaction in under 0.1 second, intercepting fraudulent activity in real time. Currently, Alipay’s loss‑rate is below 0.00005 % (five per ten million), far lower than the roughly 0.1 % loss‑rate of international third‑party payment providers, establishing it as a global leader in payment risk management.
This participation deepened worldwide awareness of Alipay’s leading security and risk‑control capabilities, enhanced its brand visibility in global markets, and supported its ongoing international expansion strategy.
The International Telecommunication Union, founded in 1865, is the longest‑standing specialized agency of the United Nations, comprising over 190 member states and more than 700 companies and academic institutions. SG17 focuses on security standards research and development. Alipay’s continued leadership in shaping international risk‑control standards demonstrates both its commitment to open fintech innovation and the growing influence of Chinese enterprises in setting global industry rules.
