2nd Wireless Communication AI Competition: Dual-Track Challenge for AI-Driven Channel Estimation and Feedback
The 2nd Wireless Communication AI Competition, organized by the IMT‑2020 Promotion Group and partners, launches a dual‑track challenge—AI‑based Channel State Information Feedback and AI‑based Channel Estimation—offering a 1 million RMB prize pool, international participation, and an all‑English platform from June to September 2021.
The 2nd Wireless Communication AI Competition has officially launched, marking a significant evolution from its inaugural edition. This year's competition introduces a dual-track format, with OPPO and vivo each presenting a specialized challenge: "AI-based Channel State Information Feedback" and "AI-based Channel Estimation," respectively. The competition is organized by the IMT-2020(5G) Promotion Group's 5G and AI Integration Research Task Group, with co-organization by China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), OPPO Guangdong Mobile Communications, and vivo Mobile Communications.
The competition aims to foster the integration of artificial intelligence with wireless communication technologies, encouraging innovative solutions for channel estimation and feedback problems. The dual-track structure not only diversifies the competition but also increases the total prize pool to 1 million RMB. The event features an all-English interface, international participation, and a range of incentives including certificates, recruitment opportunities, and expert interactions.
Track 1 focuses on AI-based Channel State Information Feedback, where participants must develop models to compress and feedback channel feature information from the UE side to the network side. The task involves handling two scenarios: 48-bit and 128-bit feedback vectors, with the final score being a weighted combination of both. Track 2 centers on AI-based Channel Estimation, challenging participants to use AI to estimate channel information across all time-frequency resources based on limited DMRS (Demodulation Reference Signal) inputs.
The competition timeline spans from June 24 to September 30, 2021, with online submissions and evaluations. The top ten teams from each track will be invited to a sharing session and award ceremony. The competition emphasizes fairness through automated anti-cheating mechanisms and manual reviews.
Overall, the 2nd Wireless Communication AI Competition represents a significant step forward in promoting the synergy between AI and wireless communication, offering a platform for global talent to contribute to the advancement of 5G and beyond technologies.
